Hotel discounts to liven up ‘Islamic tourism capital’
TEHRAN – Hotels in Tabriz are set to give big discounts to their foreign and domestic customers from April 21 to May 15 in a bid to juice up traveling to the northwestern Iranian city, which bears the title of ‘Islamic tourism capital’ in 2018.
In addition to accommodation markdowns, significant discounts on Tabriz rugs, carpets and some other handcrafted products were announced during a follow-up session, which was held by the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization on Monday.
Attended by CHHTO Deputy Director Mohammad Moheb-Khodai, the session also unveiled free admission to Tabriz museums and historical sites from April 24 to 26, CHTN reported.
In December 2015, the inter-governmental Organization of Islamic Cooperation selected Tabriz as the capital of Islamic tourism for 2018.
The city currently features variety of live performances, exhibits, workshops, meetings, concerts of indigenous music, and ritual dances.
Tabriz hosts several historical and religious sites, including Jameh Mosque of Tabriz and Arg of Tabriz, and UNESCO-registered Tabriz Historic Bazaar Complex. It was named a world craft city of carpet weaving by the World Craft in 2016.
